Associations

MCIS is a leader in the interpretation and translation industry, and is a proud member or on the board of the following industry associations:

• Ontario Network of Language Interpreter Services (ONLIS)
• Association de L’industrie de la Langue Language Industry Association (AILIA)
• Healthcare Interpretation Network (HIN)
• American Translators Association (ATA)

MCIS has also led the following initiatives:

• In 2009, the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration designated MCIS as the lead agency to develop e-learning tools for the 8 provincial agencies that it funds under its Language Interpreter Services (LIS) initiative.
• The work of ONLIS and HIN over the last two decades in developing interpreter training and testing standards and curriculum culminated in the creation of the National Standards Guide for Community Interpreters(NSGCI), the first of its kind in Canada.  The NSGCI establishes the minimum requirements to work as a Community Interpreter.
