Volunteer Opportunities:
Freelance Translators
We are looking for experienced freelance translators to be part of our professional team. To apply to work as a translator/proof-reader/editor you would need to fulfill the following minimum criteria:
- University degree (studies in the target language) or post secondary diploma with a combination of experience and expertise
- University degree in translation, interpretation or linguistics a definitive asset
- Members of or affiliated with translation professional association (ATIO, ATA, ITI, etc)
- 4 years of part time or 2 years full time of documented work experience in translation field
- Typing and typesetting skills in target languages
- References for translation work

Freelance Community Interpreters
As a freelance, on-call interpreter, you will provide interpreting services for organizations throughout the GTA and beyond.
Our requirements include:
- High level of language proficiency in English and another language
- Successful completion of the ILSAT or CILISAT language certification
- Professional interpretation training
- Post-secondary education preferred
- Effective interpersonal, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
We currently have opportunities for Freelance Community Interpreters and translators who are proficient in English and one or more of the languages below. Bolded languages are high priority.

Board of Directors
The Multilingual Community Interpreter Services (MCIS) is a social enterprise that specializes in the provision of interpretation and translation services for marginalized communities in South Central Ontario. MCIS is a quickly expanding, dynamic organization with tremendous potential for growth and we are recruiting individuals to serve on our Board and take us to the next level. To augment our existing Board of Directors we are looking for individuals who have expertise working in Finance, Information Technology, Public Relations or Program Development. MCIS invites applications from individuals representing the diversity of the Greater Toronto Area and would be particularly interested in those who have a background in the language industry or who have experience as a staff or board member within a grassroots non-profit organization. If you have expertise in an area not listed above, but are passionate about the issue of linguistic access, please feel free to send in your resume for consideration.
MCIS serves 96 linguistic communities in South Central Ontario and is the designated service of the Domestic Violence Court programs and Police Services in this region. Over 550 Community based and Government organizations across all sectors, including Toronto Public Health, Children’s Aid Societies, Community Care Access Centres and Legal Clinics access MCIS’ interpreters and translators to serve their limited English speaking clients.
